14th October to 18th November 2021

Venue: Sock Gallery

This year is the 800th anniversary of the Royal Charters which granted permission for the Market and Fair to be held in Loughborough.

Fair 800 will be an exhibition celebrating Loughborough Fair. Working closely with members of the Showman’s Guild of Great Britain and The Fairground Association of Great Britain, the exhibition will contain Showman’s histories, original artwork and sketches by renowned fairground artists, miniature fair rides and much more.

Leicestershire County Council will also be showing a display of collected memories from the public about Loughborough Fair. This exhibit was co-curated with Community Curator volunteers and you can read more about local peoples connections and memories at https://www.cultureleicestershire.co.uk/projects/market-800/

Competition and Family Art Workshop

There will be two colouring competitions for children in the gallery during the exhibition, colour in a carousel horse ages 3-5 and design your own fair ride for ages 6-10. Colouring sheets will be available in the gallery during the exhibition with LTH Pantomime family tickets for prizes.

A free drop in family art workshop will take place on Saturday 16th October 10am – 1pm to create Fairground artwork.
