In 2010 the Peruvian Mario Vargas Llosa won the Nobel Prize for Literature. This 1977 semi-autobiographical novel, set in 1950s Lima, is wonderfully comic, a superb introduction to South American writing that combines real and imagined worlds.

Our highly popular series of lunchtime lectures on the great works of literature are brought to you by Dr Jane Mackay.  Her obvious love for her subject, penetrating insight, wit, warmth and humanity continue to enthral.

The lecture takes place in the welcoming comfort of the Victoria Room, with unreserved seating.

Note: No booking fee for cash transactions only
