Simon Yates - The Wild Within

26th April 2012 - 7.30pm

Venue: Loughborough Town Hall

Following his successful Beyond the Void tours in 2008-2009, mountaineer Simon Yates is back on tour promoting his new book, The Wild Within.

Simon is one of the world’s most prolific and accomplished mountaineers of his generation.  He is best known for being the climber forced to cut Joe Simpson’s rope during their fateful descent of Peru’s Siula Grande - a story retold in Joe’s best selling book and the BAFTA award-winning film, Touching the Void, that made both men household names.

In The Wild Within Simon recounts his experiences of teaming up with mountaineering legends Doug Scott, Andy Parkin and Joe Simpson.

With his dry wit and humorous approach, Simon captivates the audience with exhilarating stories from his most recent expeditions to Alaska, Greenland and Canada where he pioneered three first ascents and narrowly missed crashing his ski-plane on the Alaskan-Yukon border.

In our communication driven era, where you can now make a 3G mobile call from Mount Everest, Simon explores how new technology has changed the face of mountaineering and adventure. Using images and footage from his expeditions, he takes the audience on a journey into the world’s few remaining wildernesses.
