Our highly popular series of lunchtime lectures on great works of literature are brought to you by Dr Jane Mackay. A graduate of three universities, Jane’s obvious love for her subject, penetrating insight, wit, warmth and humanity continue to enthral.
To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Lee’s only novel brings us the 1940s American deep south at a time when black people could only dream of independence let alone justice. Highly autobiographical, Lee explores her own childhood in Alabama, with her friend Truman Capote, and gives us a picture of dawning awareness of the problems surrounding her seeming idyllic world.
Film: the Gregory Peck 1962 is wonderful.
