FREE CRAFT WORKSHOPS FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 4-16 YEARS ONLY ON SUNDAY 28TH MARCH 2010!!!!
These workshops will be held in the Town Hall foyer and will run on a drop in basis throughout the day (no pre-booking required, just turn up). Parents are required to accompany children at all times.
Workshop1: Linda Harding is a freelance Community Artist and Arts in Education specialist. With fifteen years' experience as a Primary School teacher and Art Co-ordinator, working with a wide range of community groups, creating projects ranging from giant sculptures and mosaics, to collaborative textile hangings. She will be providing engaging workshop in felting for ages 4 to 16. Successful results are possible for all, from tiny children to adults. The magical transformation of colorful sheep’s fleece into fabric is exciting and provides a real 'wow' factor! Small children will be encouraged to make sock-shaped pieces of felt, using various colours of fleece to make patterns, while older teenagers can make rectangles of felting incorporating various textiles, wools and yarns to create an exciting surface. These can then be taken home to sew up into very desirable purses or small bags.
A really fun hands-on process!

Workshop 2: Joanne Wilton has a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art, sculpture.
Jo has worked with children and teachers on creative art projects for two years. The majority of work has been delivered within schools and links to the creative partnership schemes – to encourage academic learning through creativity. Jo believes that, “Children often find these creative activities fun, accessible and rewarding, and it helps them to build self-esteem through imagining, developing and creating their own ideas.” Jo will be helping the children and young people to create creatures made out of socks using coloured fabrics, buttons, and ribbons.
