The greatest novel about the American depression ever written. Steinbeck grew up in the Salinas Valley in California and personally witnessed the immense tragedy of the dirt farmers of the Mid West, lured from their dying farmsby the false promise of plenty in California. Highly influential to American public opinion, the novel also contributed to Steinbeck’s Nobel Prize for Fiction in 1962.
