Literature at Lunchtime: Cheri by Collette

29th September 2009 - 12 noon

Our highly popular series of lunchtime lectures on great works of literature are brought to you by Dr Jane Mackay. A graduate of three universities, Jane's obvious love for her subject, penetrating insight, wit, warmth and humanity continue to enthral.

Recently made into a block-busting film, Cheri is set in Paris before the First World War,and follows Colette's tender exploration of the love between an older lady Lea, a courtesan, and Cheri, the young son of a friend. Lose yourself in that particularly French world, the 'Demi-monde', full of romance, colour and tragedy.
