Let's Face The Music - Berlin and Astaire

Tell a friend:

11th October 2008 - 2pm

'Irving Berlin has no place in American music. He is American music.' Jerome Kern.

'. . . Gershwin, Berlin, Kern and Porter . . .might never have written so many of their best songs if it hadn't been for the fact that Fred Astaire was going to sing them.' Sammy Davis Jnr.

These two musical giants of the 20th Century are paid tribute in a brand new show presented by Tony Jacobs along with some of his favourite musicians under the direction of saxophonist/clarinettist Sue Greenway (RAF Squadronnaires, BBC Big Band, Syd Lawrence Orchestra and many West End shows). At the piano is Tony's regular accompanist Jim Barry (BBC Radio Band) and on and on guitar is special guest Len Walker who for many years played with the BBC Radio Band.

Songs include Top Hat, White Tie and Tales; Always; Puttin' On The Ritz; Cheek To Cheek; Alexander's Ragtime Band; How Deep Is The Ocean?; Change Partners; Isn't This A Lovely Day? and many others including a medley of songs that were introduced to the world by the inimitable Fred Astaire. This is an evening to remember!
