This workshop will introduce you to mokuhanga, traditional Japanese woodblock printmaking. This technique is widely known by the artworks of 18th-19th Century Japanese artists such as Hiroshige and Hokusai. You will see a glimpse into the process that made their prints! You will chisel the woodblock with Japanese tools, experience the unique way of printing with water-based inks using traditional inking brushes onto delicate Japanese paper.

Please note that the cutting process will require some physical strength in your hands.

About the tutor - Sumiko Eadon is an artist and freelance printmaking tutor and associate artist of Leicester Print Workshop, she is based in Loughborough. She was born and raised in Japan and became a resident and citizen in the UK as an adult. She obtained a Fine Art degree as a mature student at Loughborough University. Since her graduation in 2013, she has developed her portfolio through residencies, exhibitions and collaborations. 

All workshops are 16+
