Lizzie Cooper & her Trio - Jazz Night

Tell a friend:

21st January 2014 - 8pm

Venue: Loughborough Town Hall

The first in a series of relaxed jazz evenings performed in the relaxed and intimate surroundings of the venue's Sock Gallery.  Lizzie will host the evening and perform with her trio of piano, bass and drums. The concert will also feature special guest guitarist Max Brittain.

Lizzie sings standards from the ‘Great American Songbook’ from the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s, including songs written by Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hart, and Carlos Jobim as well as many others.  Lizzie comments, “The sound and tone of my voice, I have been told, is quite distinct.  It has a low register and is quite mellow.”

Lizzie grew up in Loughborough surrounded by music. Her parents opened the 'Eugene Cooper' record shop in the 1950's in Wards End, which became a cultural meeting place for musicians and music lovers as well as a shop. She always loved singing and developed her love of jazz listening to records, before going on to study music at university. Lizzie has sung in venues across the country including the Savoy Hotel in London, Warwick Castle, Cliveden House in Berkshire and the dungeons of Windsor Castle!

“Through music, I have found solace at difficult times in my life and great happiness at others. My recent album 'You Don't Know What Love Is' explores different feelings about love. It is dedicated to my mother, who died in 2009 and to my closest schoolfriend, Vanessa, who was also born and brought up in Loughborough and died in 2010.”

The Jazz Night offers a relaxed experience with an open bar and unreserved seating.  The concert begins at 8pm, ending at 10.30pm.

Lizzie's new CD entitled 'You Don't Know What Love Is' will be available for sale on the evening.
