Death in Venice by Thomas Mann
An aging writer arrives in Venice and has to re-assess the meaning of his life. His unvoiced passion for boy at his hotel leads him into undreamed of realms of pathos and humiliation. This novella is the most perfectly artistically realized of all Mann’s works.
Luscious 1971 film by Visconti with Dirk Bogarde marvelous as the Mann character.
